Around 1917 the art movement called “De Stijl” (“The Style”) was founded, marked with the publication of a new magazine with the same name. Young artists like Theo van Doesburg, Piet Mondriaan, Bart van der Leck Gerrit Rietveld and Vilmos Huszár developed their own signature based on straightforward principles. Stern and festive. Based on primary colours red, yellow and blue. As we know from the work of Mondriaan. The same principles were adopted for architecture, like in the Schroder House in Utrecht. Spaces created through the intersection of square shapes. Later the sternness transforms into a wider palette of abstract forms and color combinations.
The style of Pastoe is based on that same quest for simple, timeless principles. Our cabinets are experiments on the border between art and architecture, the field of operation of the Stijl-movement. The DNA of this group of young enthusiastic designers can still be found in our products. We celebrate the foundation of this influential movement a century ago. We honour our creative forefathers with special editions of the Vision Cabinet. Every edition is named after one of the founders.
