LENSVELT | MILITARY STOOL

NT$26,500

DESIGN : GERRIT RIETVELD (1923)

In 1923 Dutch designer Gerrit Rietveld had painted his iconic armchair (designed in 1917) using the primary colors red and blue. The red blue chair is probably Rietveld’s best known piece of furniture. Soon thereafter Rietveld had built his famous Schroder house in a similar style following the guidelines of the art movement called ‘De Stijl’.
In the same year Rietveld designed a series of dining furniture for the Catholic Military Home (Katholiek Militair Tehuis) in Utrecht, using bolts and nuts to connect wooden elements rather than the traditional wooden dowel pins. Robust, strong and notable due to the use of cross beams and contrasting colors.

Currently the Military stool, chair and table are distributed by Lensvelt in The Netherlands. This series is available in various color combinations, whereby the tops are always painted in a contrasting color.
